The Victory Relay
Nike LA tasked us to create a kickoff event to not only help spark the race to LA28, (the Olympics returning to Los Angeles in 2028), but also hold space for the celebration of women runners and LA's diverse running community. On Mamba Day (August 24, 2024), over 320 runners showed up bright and early for The Victory Relay, held at the historic LA Coliseum, that Saturday morning to tap into the Mamba mentality to work as relay teams to try to beat Joanie Benoit's iconic, gold-winning women's marathon race time from the '84 Olympics. From postpartum running mamas, to college athletes, to the young middle schoolers giving the semi-pros a literal run for their money, the breadth of women athletes from all parts of the city giving it their all — while donned in the new Nike Pegaus 41 running shoes — was a true inspiration for all and ushered in a new era for the LA running community.
